God Cares About the Little Things by Kristy Mast

When I first started evaluating my prayer life, I felt like I was doing an OK job—thanking God, praying for others, and of course, if something really big or pressing came up, I’d take that to Him. But I wasn’t necessarily seeking Him throughout my day.
Then I realized what was really missing—I trusted God with the big things but was missing out on the fact that He cares about the small things too. Maybe it’s just me, but as a woman so much of my energy, time, and thoughts are focused on others. I’m taking care of the family and running a business and if I’m honest, I can often put myself and my needs last. Can you relate with that? And maybe that was showing up in my prayer life, too. Why wasn’t I taking the time to bring my own daily needs to God? Was I thinking I could handle it all myself? Was I missing something by not slowing down?
That’s when I started asking myself some important questions that fell into three categories: pause, push, and posture.
Pause
1. What am I missing when I don’t slow down to pray?
- When we rush through the day without prayer, we miss divine appointments—conversations, insights, or moments where God wants to guide us and show us love.
- Example: Maybe that moment of frustration at work was an opportunity to show grace. Maybe that person at the grocery store needed encouragement. Prayer tunes us into God’s plan for the day.
Luke 12.7 “Indeed, the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.”
Push
2. Am I staying in my comfort zone because I’m not relying on God?
- In other words, am I living in God’s purpose or in my comfort? If I only pray about the things I can’t handle, then I’m probably living within my limits instead of God’s.
- Example: Think of Peter walking on water. He had to step out of the boat and trust Jesus to do something beyond his ability. Prayer pushes us beyond the comfortable into the miraculous.
Posture
3. Is my lack of prayer a reflection of my humility?
- When I don’t pray, am I acting like I don’t need God? True humility isn’t thinking less of myself—it’s realizing I need God in everything.
- Example: A child doesn’t hesitate to ask their parent for help, whether it's tying a shoe or fixing something big. God delights when we bring everything to Him—big or small.
Does God Care About The Little Things?
Maybe like me, you’ve thought: God doesn’t need to be bothered with the little things. The beautiful, amazing truth is, He wants to be involved in every part of our day. He wants us to pray without ceasing. So let’s Pause, Push, and take the right Posture—because nothing is too small for God!
“Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.” ~1 Thessalonians 5:16-18
Nothing is Too Small
No prayer too small, no need too light,
God walks beside me, day and night.
He longs to hear my whispered plea,
"Come, my child, just talk to Me."
Not just the storms or mountains tall,
But daily steps, both big and small.
He meets me there, in tasks mundane,
And leads me in His perfect way
